Supporting the Arts and Artists in Our Communities and Beyond

Spectrum Gallery and the Arts Center Killingworth Now and in the Future

View Current Exhibit Pieces on Spectrum Anytime

Spectrum Gallery and Store of Centerbrook and its parent organization, the nonprofit Arts Center Killingworth, have announced current and future programming. Fully aware of the critical need to maintain safety and care throughout the communities they serve, the organizations are adjusting and updating the public on many of its online options as well as upcoming arts events throughout 2020. All previously scheduled art classes and workshops have been cancelled until further notice, with updates regarding changing status to be posted on spectrumartgallery.org

Spectrum’s newest exhibit, Shadow Dance, has been on view in the Gallery space since March 27th . An exploration of original artwork that showcases the imagery of shadows in a variety of mediums, the show includes works by representational and abstract painters, collage artists, sculptors and photographers throughout Connecticut and New England. In addition, Spectrum’s Artisans Store has refreshed its selections with one-of-a-kind fine crafts such as pottery and ceramics, innovative jewelry designs, and glass, wood and fiber crafts.

While the gallery is currently closed to visitors until further notice, its online store, Spectrum Anytime (www.spectrumartgallery.org/shop) is live and a perfect choice for browsing the new exhibition and Spring store items, shopping from the comfort of home, and for shipping items anywhere in the US. Local customers such as those on the Connecticut Shoreline can request a “front of the gallery pickup” by appointment. With upcoming events such as Mother’s and Father’s Day, and various graduations, it’s a timely and convenient option. While online, visitors can also experience Spectrum’s Community Spotlight, an up-to-date intimate look at select artists who are creating new work today, showcased through photographs and videos.

Looking a bit further out, the organizations are encouraging artists and artisans to register today for two upcoming Connecticut Outdoor Arts Festivals: The Summer Arts Festival (Essex Town Green) and The Autumn Arts Festival (Madison Town Green). For Essex, half of the available 40 tent spaces are currently filled, so submitting as soon as possible is recommended. Week-long Summer Camps for children and teens also have space available for both the well-attended Fashion I and II, and the beloved Art & Nature Camps.  Space is limited, however, to 10-12 participants per camp, with each child given considerable individual attention.

Spectrum Gallery works with and helps support the creativity and livelihood of over 100 emerging and established artists and fine artisans who offer classes, as well as display and sell their work in gallery exhibits, online, and at outdoor festivals. More than ever, the support by lovers of the arts and customer patronage is what will keep Spectrum Gallery and the Arts Center Killingworth viable and vibrant parts of the community – now and long into the future. The arts are needed for both their ability to entertain, to comfort, and to make sense of the world in both good and challenging times. An important reminder is how the arts have been proven to be a solid and important component of the long-term economic vibrancy of our communities and surrounding regions.

Last but not least, the Arts Center Killingworth welcomes all donations (which can be made by mail and online) as well as by the public’s use of its Amazon Smile program where online purchases from Amazon.com result in ongoing small donations to the Arts Center, with no extra cost to the customer. With the tremendous surge in online shopping today, these extra dollars can and will make a crucial difference. The public can visit https://org.amazon.com/ and search for and select the Arts Center Killingworth as its charitable recipient. Spectrum Art Gallery and Artisans Store is located at 61 Main Street, Centerbrook, Connecticut.
