Gemma, encaustic with alcohol ink and shellac on wood panel, 24in diameter
Stacy Vroman began her journey as an artist about 8 years ago. She is a full-time RN and enjoys creating layer upon layer, blending one color into another and found encaustic by accident through an artist who had online classes. Encaustic is a centuries old art form that blends bee’s wax and demar resin to create layers of texture and depth. As Stacy started to learn the technique she found she enjoyed painting hot to cold more than the traditional wet to dry. Vroman obtained books to study color theory which was instrumental in creating the color pallet she uses. Zoom classes were also part of her learning process.
Vroman’s work is encaustic with mixed media which includes ink and shellac. The substrate used is wood panels with many layers of encaustic medium fused with a blow torch. Dry pigments are used to create colors which allow Stacy to mix and customize her color pallet. She takes inspiration from nature. Whether she sees landscapes or botanicals nature never disappoints.
Most of Stacy’s art has been gifted out. She showed a collection of botanicals in a shop in Chester which had gone home with collectors. Stacy’s encaustics are currently exhibited at Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook, CT.
