In his fourth year of college Roger switched from mechanical engineering at the University of Texas to art. He directed the Craft Center at the student union until he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He was a potter and teacher on Cape Cod for 11 years and a goldsmith in Boston for eight. He moved to Chattanooga, TN to do technical development in the jewelry manufacturing industry before returning to the craft world. He initially made salt glazed pottery and added wood in 2014. He now works exclusively with wood most of it done on a lathe. He primarily works with local wood that would otherwise be burned or chipped. Many of his pieces are made from spalted wood. Spalting occurs when fungi invade fresh wood and initiate the rotting process. Roger has been a member of the In-Town Gallery, a cooperative gallery in Chattanooga, TN since 2011. He now also shows his work at Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook, CT
