Wild Zest 1, paper, paint, thread, 8×8

Kathy Johnson’s work often begins with cast-offs, bits of found or repurposed paper that might be overlooked by others. She is drawn to these fragments for their texture, history, and potential. Transforming them with textured layers and stitched details, her aim is to create pieces that invite closer inspection.

Kathy is an artist and educator living in Waterford, Connecticut. Her work has been exhibited nationally and in galleries across Connecticut and Rhode Island. She teaches collage, eco-printing, rust-printing, and slow-stitching techniques, with a focus on playfulness, curiosity, and noticing the beauty in everyday materials.

Johnson’s artwork is currently exhibited at Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook, Connecticut.
