Old Tree Welcoming Spring, hand-dyed sheep’s locks, merino wool and other wools, wire, wood , 14in h x 17in w

Cathy is a retired nurse and new, enthusiastic, felter. From her first exposure to fabric art with Rachel Gerowe, Connecticut fabric artist, Cathy has explored creative ways to illustrate nature through sculptural and two-dimensional felting. She is committed to working with locally sourced fiber from farms in New England- and designing pieces typical of the Connecticut countryside. The tree exhibited here was inspired by an old tree-that despite its age-welcomes Spring each year ,providing shelter to wildlife and beauty to the wooded hills that surround her home.

She says,” that moment when your vision suddenly starts to appear in the unfinished piece is the best! Working with a variety of fibers and felting the negative space to make a design come to life is so rewarding!

Cathy is a student of Lori Neumann .
