Moonlight Serenade, watercolor on paper

Mitchell is stimulated by color, shapes, textures and movements that one finds in nature, and flow is Mitchell’s passion.  Having grown up in New York, Rodbell loves the seascapes, landscapes and terrain of the Northeast. He looks beyond reality, whenever possible and extract the essence of the subject matter at hand. Mitchell’s mediums are painting and drawing with acrylics, watercolor, mixed media, ink and crayon pastels.  Some of Rodbell’s favorite artists, to name a few, are Van Gogh, Picasso, Diebenkorn, Frankenthaler and Hockney.

Mitchell received a BFA in Illustration from Syracuse University, after which he spent many years as Creative Director and Designer for Jessica Howard, where he designed women’s apparel. Working in the design field and focusing on color, print, shape and proportion has facilitated Rodbell’s smooth transition from fashion to art.

Rodbell is currently creating new work at The Arts Students League of New York, where he has shown his work at various salons and has received honorable mention. In addition, Mitchell is a member of The Long Beach Art League, where he shows his work monthly and recently received honorable mention. Mitchell’s art is currently exhibited at Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook, Connecticut.
