Coffee-Colored bottle opener, nickel-plated metal, dyed yellow birchwood, polyurethane
Kim Boekelheide has been a hobbyist woodworker his whole life, including making a traditional walnut desk in high school shop that won him the Woodworking Prize in 1968. After a career as a Professor at Brown University, he has pursued furniture commissions and making hand-turned ice cream scoops and bottle openers for sale in consignment shops.
“A finely finished work of wood is a tactile and visual experience. My designs are grounded in tradition and explore the natural patina and grain of wood. I also enjoy adding color to my work, either as an epoxy inlay or by using dyed wood. One of the most satisfying aspects of my woodworking is having clients who appreciate the skill and craft involved”.
Boekelheide’s woodworking is currently exhibited at Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook, Connecticut.
