An emerging fiber artist, Barbara Hanson’s artwork includes art quilting, collage, applique, embroidery, mixed media, and stitching.
Since retiring from her career in technology, she has devoted her time to creative endeavors, always with her primary focus on the natural world. She is a self-taught photographer, digital artist and motion graphics artist, and her photographs are in private collections and have been exhibited in galleries and juried shows.
Recently, her desire to move away from computer work led her to rediscover the needlework and sewing skills she learned as a child and young adult. Throughout those years, Barbara made and sold soft toys, including animals, dolls, and hand puppets; embroidered or appliqued wall hangings; fashions and accessories. Many of those are in private collections. Now, online workshops in collage and mixed media have further developed her skills and introduced her to new techniques and methods. Her photographs and digital art often form the foundations for her fiber art pieces, as she transforms her ideas into wall hangings that honor Nature’s beauty, grandeur, challenges and fragility. Hanson’s work is currently exhibited at Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook, Connecticut.
