61 Main Street, Centerbrook CT | Art Classes and Workshops for All Levels.
Experience the liberating feeling as you apply the versatile medium of oil sticks to paper or any surface! Oil sticks are made of pure pigment, wax, linseed or safflower oil, then rolled into a crayon form. Enjoy the quick application & buttery feel as they glide along the surface. A great medium for rough color preliminary sketches in the studio or en plein air. Create texture through various cross hatching affects. Build an impasto surface, lending to interesting scrafitto & mark making or combine with oil paint mediums. The possibilities are endless!
This workshop will cover two different application methods using different substrates for each. First we will use a simple still life as our muse to delve into creating color and texture using layering techniques. For our second method we will work with pallet knife and color shapers. This approach encourages freedom to develop atmosphere and stylized mark making using impasto effects with sgrafitto as we create an abstract landscape.
The discovery of Oil Paint Sticks developed on a special request to Sennelier, the renowned art supply house in Paris by artist Pablo Picasso in 1949. Picasso wanted something he could use to spontaneously create an oil painting with ease, mobility and not be exposed to toxic chemicals. They quickly became a sensation.
