Susan Zirlen is a mixed media textile artist who has combined her passion for collecting and curating vintage fabric with her love of the natural world, Her obsession for vintage fabrics started early discovering, collecting and interpreting stories stitched into textiles found at church and tag sales. Additionally, she is a beachcomber and nature lover who can’t pass up a unique shell, scrap of driftwood or piece of sea glass.
By creating textile collage pieces using the slow stitch process and including both natural and man made embellishments ( buttons, ribbon, etc.) she hopes to create a connection between the two worlds.
Susan has a Masters degree in Communication Disorders and has worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist for over 30 years. Her textile creations have been sold at local vintage markets and through her Etsy shop. She has shown her work at the Middletown Employees Art Exhibit.
