Susan Leggitt began her life as an artist as soon as she could hold a crayon. Being artistic her entire life, she creatively propelled herself through school, which led her to a successful career as a graphic designer and art director.
Her other career as a fine artist began to re-emerge several years ago when she began to study under Frank Bruckmann. Then under Alex McFarlane and Dean Fisher at the Silvermine School of Art and William McCarthy. Her yearly painting retreats to Maine feed her love of the coast.
A native of Connecticut and recent City of Groton resident, Susan has been active in many regional arts and community organizations, including serving as the president of the Rowayton Arts Center. She has recently been juried into the Silvermine Guild of Artists as well as the Westport Artist Collective. She has accumulated many awards for her artwork, including the Sydney and Arthur Eder Foundation Award, from the New Haven Paint & Clay Annual Exhibition and most recently, Best in Show at the 2018 Artshow: Bedford, (New York) judged by Peter MacGill of Pace/MacGill Gallery in NYC and Darsie Alexander, executive director of the Katonah Museum of Art, (New York) and Best for Works on Paper, Artshow:Bedford 2019. She has been juried into several shows at the Mystic Museum of Art and has won an honorable mention there.
She exhibits widely throughout Fairfield County, and New England, including several solo shows.
