Blue Bouquet Sauce Bowl, stoneware
Jana grew up in Washington State where her Mother instilled a love for art at a very young age. Teaching her different mediums such as stained glass, sewing and painting. She moved to the Caribbean in her early 20’s where she fell in love with the year round sunny days, clear blue oceans, beautiful sea life and her wonderful husband Josh. After 12 years, they decided to move back to his home state of Connecticut in 2017. They have since purchased a home in Deep River.
The end of 2019 Josh gifted Jana a set of beginner pottery classes from a local friend, where it turned out she had a special gift for working with mud. Spending the next couple years renting space in the studio, she spent time improving her skills with hours of practice and learning from YouTube videos at home. She is always exploring different techniques, shapes and glaze combinations. Discovering her love for Sgraffito Carving and Underglaze Transfers, these are some of her favorites these days. She is meticulous at making quality pottery. Finishing each piece by sanding the bottoms til smooth and flat. Her goal is to create functional pottery for every room in your home and is consistently creating new and unique pieces that are available to add to your collection. She likes to focus on pieces for the kitchen as she loves cooking with her husband and entertaining family and friends.
By starting small and selling her pieces to family and friends she gained the confidence to start her small business Banana Made Pottery. Within her first year on Etsy she became a star seller with 5 star reviews. You can also find her set up at local venues and fairs. These include Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook, Deep River Farmers Market, Running Brook Farms in Killingworth and the Chester Fair. Needless to say, she has fallen in love with clay and doesn’t see herself stopping anytime soon.
