Howard dabbled in photography for a bunch of years, but his interest peaked when he had an opportunity to live in China for five years. Every day offered some unique visual experience which he sought to capture. He shoots a wide range of subjects, but favors portrait photography. He prefers to shoot candid, un-posed subjects because he believes they produce a more authentic rendition. His goal is to render subjects as they see themselves. He seeks to promote feelings and leave the viewer alone to make what they will of them. His inspiration comes from the great street photographers especially Henri Cartier-Bresson and he also strives to capture the “decisive moment”. Howard has won numerous awards including ‘Best In Show” awards in Connecticut and in China. His images have been displayed in juried shows in Connecticut including the Mystic Arts Center Photo Show, The F Stops Here Show, Images, Essex Art Association (where he is an elected member), Light on Westbrook, the Lyme Land Trust, Mystic Art Association, and multiple camera clubs. He was chosen to have a solo show at the Essex Library. His images have been shown at the Fresh Ayer Gallery, Gallery At Firehouse Square, Maple & Main Gallery and the Spectrum Gallery. He has done volunteer photography for High Hopes and The Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts. He is the 2017 Co-Chair of the Hamburg Fair photography contest. He is member of the Connecticut Valley Camera Club. He is also a founding board member of the Global Institute for Arts and Leadership.
