Wendy Campbell has been a maker all her life and was once the bane to her mother’s existence due to her habit of saving “garbage” to make art with. She is mostly self-taught and has been lucky to study under many artists from the mixed media world she loves so much. Though she didn’t start painting until she was 45, she is an artist who enjoys many mediums. Painting primarily in acrylics and watercolor, she enjoys adding found objects. Vintage paper, keys and hardware items, old photos, music paper, old cigarette cards, and costume jewelry all find their way into her art.
Wendy also loves working in textiles and has a background in weaving. She has learned to make hand-pounded brown oak shaker baskets under Martha Weatherby, who lived with the last few shakers to learn their craft. Her latest passion is paper, particularly working with vintage paper and found treasures. She is creating a line of Art Journals, Junk Journals, paper pads and ephemera for journaling and memory keeping.
Living in the tri-town area, Wendy has shown her art at Artists for World Peace in Middletown, CT. She is very excited to be a part of Spectrum Gallery’s Summer Arts Festival on the Town Green in Essex, Connecticut.
