Spectrum Art Gallery and Artisan Store | Fine Art, Sculpture, Photography and Unique Gifts | Pottery, Art Glass, Jewelry and Fiber Art
61 Main Street, Centerbrook CT | Art Classes and Workshops for All Levels.
We’re all stressed these days, especially after a year of dealing with navigating life amid a global pandemic. Coloring has been a longtime popular outlet to creatively diffuse this stress and encourage creativity. We’re not talking about kiddie books and crayolas. We will work with beautifully detailed books filled with mandalas, floral images, fantastical creatures, enchanting women, entangled designs, and more. A wide variety of mediums are used in this workshop– colored pencils, markers, gel pens. Participants will select from handouts and experiment with various techniques such as blending and shading using different colored pencils and markers, keeping in mind that all colored pencils are not the same. Everyone will receive handouts to take away and a package of pencils. The beauty of coloring is that it can be as simple and inexpensive or as complicated and pricey as you want. Many artists offer samples of their work to download, so with a set of colored pencils, you’re good to go. Experienced and newbies welcome.

Teaching Artist Sally Bahner is a longtime journalist, cat expert, political junkie, and adult coloring devotee. She has a degree in English from Upsala College. A friend mentioned coloring and gifted her with a book and some markers some 15 years ago, and she never looked back. When the hobby really took off a few years ago and became more mainstream, Sally parlayed her interest into classes at local libraries and adult education.
Her passion is reflected in her huge collection of books by artists such as Johanna Basford, Hanna Karlzon, Angela Porter, Kimberly Garvey, and many more. Add to that numerous sets of colored pencils, markers, and gel pens.
She loves color so adult coloring really taps into her artistic side.
